Anyone who works at home can tell you it can be tough, but when you add children to the mix, your stress level will tend to be sky high.  So although trying to find a good balance between your work obligations and time with your children is hard, you can ease the burden a bit by effectively managing your time.

Family Time

No matter what, setting aside some family time is important as your family should be top priority.  The time you decide to do that will greatly depend upon your child’s school and activity schedule.  During your time together, enjoy a meal, talk about their day, and enjoy an activity.  Spending time together will be something you both look forward to.

Child Care

Find a babysitter to take care of your children for a few hours everyday or a get them a play date at a friends house.  This will give you much needed time to complete your work in peace and quiet and hopefully, you will finish faster.

Work Around Their Schedule

If your children go to school, you should try to work as much as possible while they are gone.  This way you will have more time to devote to them when they are home.  If your child is too young to go to school, do your most vital tasks during their nap time.

Working during your children’s bedtime is another way to get some much needed work completed while everyone in the house is quiet.

Interruptions and Distractions

Turn off the telephone ringer and your television in order to minimize distractions during your work day.  Since you are a self-employed, home worker, you have to be your own boss and maintain a level of discipline in order to succeed.  The less interruptions and distractions you have, the quicker you can finish your tasks and the sooner you can spend quality time with your family.

Is there a difference between a home job and a home business?  Absolutely.  And there are advantages and disadvantages to each one, which you can learn more about by taking a look at the following pros and cons of both a home job and a home business.

Home Jobs–Pros

When you are employed at a home job, you will receive a steady paycheck at regular intervals, allowing you the peace of mind of knowing your bills can be paid.  And with the state of the economy, this benefit is priceless.

At the end of the workday, you get to stop working and relax instead of being burdened with the worry of keeping a business of your own afloat.

Home Jobs–Cons

Even though you get to work from the comfort of your own home, you are still required to answer to someone else–your boss.

As someone’s work at home employee, it completely falls on your shoulders to finish assignments, tasks, and projects.  There are no colleagues or other staff members who can help pitch in.

Home Businesses–Pros

If you are the proud owner of a home business, you can build up an unlimited amount of equity into it.

Since you call the shots, you are allowed to decide if you want to hire others to handle the more menial tasks of running a home business, which gives you the option of taking a break or concentrating on more crucial projects.

Home Business–Cons

There is always the risk of your home business failing, especially within its first year of operation.  And the risk is huge.

You will put in more hours of work in a day than you ever dreamed were possible.

Since there are several advantages and disadvantages to home businesses as well as home jobs, it is up to you to decide what you can handle and what you cannot.

There are many part-time, full-time, and business opportunities for those wishing to work via the internet, but finding these great internet jobs can be difficult.  Here are a few methods to finding the at home, online job of your dreams.

Finding Internet Job
Search Engines

This method is easy.  Use the search engine of your choice and perform a keyword search on “internet jobs,” “jobs online,” “free online jobs,” and any other similar keyword phrase.  Once you get your results, check out each website and see what they have to offer.

However, you need to be careful so as not to be mislead by multi-level marketing schemes or business opportunities requiring a hefty investment.  Unless you are interested in starting your own internet business, these sites are not the way to go.

Big Freelance Websites

There are several websites on the internet where people post jobs for others to bid on.  So if you want to work online from home, these places are perfect for you.  Usually you only need to register and many times you can bid for free.  Find an area where you have useful skill sets and place a bid; there are plenty of opportunities to choose from, such as in the fields of web design, computer programming, search engine optimization, bookkeeping, database management, accounting, virtual administration, consulting, marketing, and even writing.

Discussion Boards

If you impress an prospective employer enough, you will win your bid and get the assignment, but you will have to pay a small fee to the freelance website.  However, you can find an internet job for absolutely no cost by simply joining a freelance discussion board.  Many times people will post requests for services needed.  Find a discussion board related to your area of expertise and when there is a job request, you can contact the person who posted it and offer your services.

Despite what you may have heard, there are a few work at home opportunities that are not only legit, but also pay decently.  And the number one skill you need to possess is simple–networking.  Here are the following reasons why you should network.

Overlooking Networking Has Downfalls

Those who do not network can lose out in a big way, especially if they are trying to get their foot in the door to a work at home opportunity.  You simply must promote your skills and spread the word about yourself if you want to profit and succeed.  And if you believe that promotion is best left in the hands of an expert, by all means hire someone even if you do not have much to work with in the way of start up costs.

Networking Is an Investment in Yourself

By networking on a consistent basis, you will easily be able to find a prospective employee or any business tools you need through asking the contacts you made through your networking endeavors.  This goes for those starting a work at home business as well as those working at home for someone else.

Networking also saves money you would have spent purchasing leads, cold calling, or even “cold” emailing.

Networking Is Not Costly

Networking does not have to be a scary, large undertaking.  Something as simple as blog commenting or going on a business lunch is considered networking.  Here are a few tips any at home working and networking newbie could use.

  • Talk about your new at home career on free work at home forums.
  • Visit social networking websites that specialize in your specific industry.
  • Travel to events in your area for the work at home minded individuals.

Bottom line, you must put in a little extra effort to network, but the effort you put in will be well worth the rewards you reap in the end.
